Out of all the different treatments currently available in the market, I must admit that microneedling is by far my favorite one. But what actually is it and what it does?

This procedure uses tools equipped with tiny needles to treat the skin surface. The tool is rolled superficially across the skin, by a professional or aesthetician, creating tiny little punctures. The punctures create "superficial damage" to the skin, which forces and activates a healing process and the production of new collagen and elastin. (Light bleeding during the procedure is normal).

We all know the importance of these proteins. As we age, collagen and elastin production in our skin decreases, causing visible signs of aging. This can include wrinkles, saggy and loose skin, sun spots, fine lines, mild scars, stretch marks, skin discoloration, enlarge pores, uneven skin tone and other signs of aging. With the production of new collagen and elastin, the signs of aging are reduced and our skin starts to look younger again.

This procedure rejuvenates the dermis and make the skin look plump and glowy. In addition, it improves and helps clear the skin's complexion, keeping the skin firm and smooth. Although it is mainly used in the face, you can actually get the procedure done in other parts of your body where you notice aging or damaged skin.

What I love most about this procedure is that it gives my skin a vibrant healthy glow; it keeps it smooth, firm, clear, and it helps to keep my Xeomin results longer.

There are potential risks for beginners when attempting this procedure at home; including scarring, prolonged irritation or swelling, infection, flaky skin, damage to blood vessels, nerve damage, and other risk involved depending on the skin's condition. However, with practice and patience, you too can be Microneedling Pro at home! Not to mention there are an abundance of classes and training videos to get you Microneedling safely in no time!

This procedure is not recommended if you suffer from:

  • Keloid scarring

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Open Wounds

  • Active skin infection

  • Diabetes

  • Clotting or bleeding disorders

  • Active acne

On the other hand, dermarolling is used to create tiny micro punctures all over your skin to improve product absorption. This procedure is usually done at home and it does not require professional help. The tools employed in dermarolling don't reach as deep as the microneedling ones do, making it much easy to do at home.

If you still want to try these procedures, always remember to do your research and don't skimp on cost. There's times in life where's beneficial to be financially frugal, but when it comes to treat your face with some of this tools, is not one of them.
